Once you arrive at Coral Lodge near the San Blas islands, you will realize how close the Pacific is from the Atlantic Ocean. At the lodge you have the option of doing near shore with the opportunity of catching Tarpon, Spanish Mackerel, Red Snapper, Jack, Grouper, Wahoo, Marlin, Tuna, African Pompano and Barracuda. The Atlantic coast of the Republic of Panama extends from Bocas del Toro to San Blas. The Atlantic coast line has a very small tide change of only 2-3 ft which makes it convenient for fly fishing, sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving and near shore fishing. At Coral Lodge there is an abundance of untouched colorful reefs which make for great fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving. During the months of December through May you can expect some 12 to 18 knot prevailing winds from the North East. These winds bring sunny cool days and cause big swells which are not good for fishing in the Atlantic. From June until November the winds and water calm down and the water gets ultra clear making it special for snorkeling, diving, fly fishing and near shore fishing. Besides fishing, you can participate in other activities at the lodge such as snorkeling, diving, kayaking, horse back riding and bird watching. Here are some of the fish species that you will be tryign to catch: Spanish Mackerel, Snapper, Shark, Barracuda, Tarpon, Grouper, Amberjack, Cubera Snapper, Amberjack, Permit, Snook, a variety of shelf pelagic fish, estuary fish and slope fish.
