There are no words to describe the beauty and tranquil nature of the mangroves and surrounding rain forest. You will paddle through, gentle, shallow waters as your guide provides you with interesting information regarding the plant and animal life that make the mangroves their homes. There is a choice of two kayak tours that are offered here at Coral Lodge Eco Resort. The first being the Escribano Bay Tour and the second being the Santa Isabel River Tour. Both of these tours are only minutes away from the Lodge and are about 60 minutes in duration. The Escribano Kayak Tour starts out on a small sandy beach in Escribano Bay. The bay itself is completely surrounded by Mangroves and is tranquil and protected from the sea and winds. You head out across the bay and into a small canal that runs for just under 4 kms through the natural rain forest. Along the way your guide will point out various plants and birds and be on hand to answer any questions that you may have. Keep you eyes open for Toucans, Green Kingfishers, Banded Kingfishers, Common Black Hawk and even the occasional salt water crocodile (if you are lucky). You then paddle slowly down the gently flowing river which winds through natural rain forest until you get back to the town of Santa Isabel. Your guide will then take you on a short tour of the town with a stop at a local restaurant for some refreshments before heading back to the lodge. Please note that guests are advised to come already wearing their swimsuit under their clothes. Sensible footwear, sun cream and sunglasses are all essential items for this tour. If you would like to bring a camera with you please ensure it is in a waterproof bag or ask your guide for a bag provided for this purpose. Guests must be at least 12 years of age in order to participate on this tour. You must be in good physical health and are confident that you will be able to paddle for 60 minutes. The kayaks are available at the resort for whenever you would like to kayak to the reef surrounding the lodge. You can tie your kayak to one of the mooring bouys provided and snorkel on the numerous coral heads surrounding Coral Lodge. |
